Abercelyn Country House is an 18th century, Grade II-listed, former rectory set in landscaped gardens overlooking Bala Lake in the Snowdonia National Park.

The bright, spacious bedrooms are furnished with individual period pieces and all have en-suite luxury bathrooms (all have power-showers, one has a whirlpool bath). There is a relaxing drawing room with library and log fire for guest's use. Excellent home-cooking (inc. special diets) with local produce and choice of breakfast, with freshly baked bread, is provided.

Abercelyn Country House is situated in a peaceful location, just a short stroll from the lake and close to Bala, which provides a choice of pubs, restaurants and shops. The local hills provide un-crowded walking in three mountain ranges and there are outstanding water-sports facilities, with sailing on Bala Lake and the National Whitewater Centre, nearby. Also locally available are indoor-swimming, tennis, riding, fishing and ten-pin bowling. There is a challenging golf course with lake views.

A self-catering Cottage for six is also available.

Abercelyn Country House is run by Lindsay & Ray Hind, who are keen walkers and can advise on the best local walks. Facilities available for walkers include - Drying room, Guided walking (by arrangement), Advice with routes, Library of walking guidebooks and maps, Pick-up for long distance paths (Dyfi Way, Cambrian Way).

Walking at Abercelyn

Abercelyn is ideally situated in Snowdonia for walking, there are three local mountain ranges (Arenig, Aran, Berwyn) readily accessible and other parts of Snowdonia are a short drive away. The local mountain ranges provide un-crowded walking over a variety of terrain, ranging from valley walks to peaks approaching 3000 ft.

Mountain ranges around Bala

To the west of Bala is the Arenig mountain range with 13 summits above 2000 ft (610 m). Arenig Fawr (854 m) is the principal summit. To the east of Bala is the Berwyn mountain range with 24 summits above 2000 ft (610 m). The best walk in the Berwyns is Cadair Berwyn (2723 m/ft 830 m). To the south of Bala is the Aran mountain range with 14 summits above 2000 ft (610 m). The Aran ridge covers the principal summits including Aran Fawddwy (2969 ft/905 m) and Aran Benllyn (2904 ft/885 m).

Example walks

Scenic walks : typically 3-5 hours and ascending up to 2000 ft (600 m)

 A local walk to Moel-y-Garnedd (1200 ft/360 m) which starts and finishes at Abercelyn and provides views of the three local mountain ranges.
 Lake Bala views walk, which traverses the ridge on the opposite side of the Lake from Abercelyn and has excellent views of the Lake, Arenigs and Arans.
Mawddach Estuary, a circular walk with views of Cadair Idris as well as the famous Estuary.
Pistyll Rhaedr walk, a visit to Wales highest waterfall (240 ft high).
Cwm Hirnant and the far western Berwyn Mountains: a circular walk with tremendous views
Precipice Walk - one of Snowdonia's classic walks with varied, magnificent views.
New Precipice Walk - less crowded than Precipice Walk but with the same views.

Local high-level walks : strenuous walks typically 6-9 miles, 5-6 hours and ascending up to 3000 ft (900 m)
