Our two cottages, Cherry Tree Cottage and Heather Bank Cottage are set in two acres of natural woodland/heather garden with superb Pennine views, and with direct access from the cottages to open countryside and footpaths. The two cottages are strategically placed amidst some of the finest and most varied walking country in England. From the doorstep, there is a wide variety of local footpaths and bridleways to explore, including the Calderdale Way long distance path, which passes close by. As we are keen walkers and cyclists ourselves, we are happy to offer advice on the most interesting moorland and footpath walking, and cycle routes using quiet country lanes.

There are exciting mountain biking in the Calder valley area : technical single track cycling, combined with varied terrain over valleys and open hillsides.

For those prepared to travel slightly further afield, Black Hill and Saddleworth Moor are located to the South.  Stoodley Pike and Hebden Bridge are easily accessed on footpaths and bridleways from the cottages, and the Haworth moors, essential inspiration for the Bronte novels, are also nearby, to the North.

We offer to meet you at local rail stations ( Huddersfield or Halifax), and provide transport to the cottages. Whenever possible, we will help with transport at the beginning or end of the day, so that you can plan the most interesting and adventurous walks.

Local Information

The countryside of Calderdale is unique - a living landscape telling the story of settlement and industry from hilltop farms and weavers cottages to mill towns in the valley bottoms. You can explore the high packhorse routes or, as a contrast follow the towpath walks along the canals. The Cherry Tree Cottages website includes information on the local Calderdale area ( now designated as the South Pennines Heritage Area)  and links to nearby tourist attractions.
