Site Makeover

Walking Britain is in the first stages of a well-deserved makeover. Nearly 7 years old and with 14 million page views a few changes will keep the site up to date

After 7 years and 14 million page views Walking Britain was due for a site makeover. The transition to a database driven site was inevitable as the stock of walks and information has grown so it seemed appropriate to give the site a new look..

The transformation will not happen overnight and the first stage will the completion of all content except the walks and photo galleries derived from the walks. This should be complete by the middle to end of March 2006. The remaining work is hope to take about 6 weeks so the site will be fully converted by the beginning of June.

As a result of the changes many minor items will see some change. This includes the renumbering of the walks into a more logical system. To save confusion the old walk numbers will be used in parallel for a few months to ease the transition. In addition there will be some improvements to the maps so that more detailed information is available.

Alongside the changes to key content, some changes will be made to regional information which will be supplemented by simialr notes on long distance paths. The gear, tour & treks and self-catering directories will be expanded adding to the range of ancilliary information that is available to site visitors.

I have always tried to satisfy the needs of site visitors and if you have any special requests then I will endeavour to incorporate them in the revamped site.
