Date - 08 Aug 2010 Recent behind the scenes activity has seen the return of the Visitor's Book after an absence of a year. In addition modifications to the Links Library should make its use easier. In recent years Walking Britain has seen a number of malicious attacks on the server as well as an increasing amount of spam in the Visitor's Book, Links Library and Online Forum. Much of this can be attributed to automated robots that search out forms and then post abusive and often offensive content. In addition much unauthorised advertising is also placed in this way. Hopefully the new system will reduce the amount of spam and also give me greater control over what gets posted. You will notice that all Visitor's Book entries will now be manually checked before being approved for display. This is NOT so that I can edit out negative comments but so offensive material is kept to a minimum as in reality the bad comments are usually things I need to sort out! Another addition has been an easier system for me to post news items. Up to now this has been an arduous task involving manually adding data to the databases. The new system goes some way to automating this process and should mean that news items are added more frequently. Coming shortly will be a new feature that will allow you to add comments to each of the walks. This is intended to allow relevant feedback about each walk to be posted and allow suggested amendments to the walk descriptions to be added. Anticipated date for this new feature is end of August but knowing my work load it will probably be a month or two after that when it all goes live. As always your feedback is welcome so please use the many oppourtunities available on the Walking Britain web site to post your comments.
