Rievaulx Abbey

Photo 034 - North York Moors

This one of my favourite places in England - Rievaulx Abbey. It was taken from the south near where the Cleveland Way crosses over the River Rye on Rievaulx Bridge. To the right are the fine arches of the choir ruins and on the left the lower remains of the presbytery and cloister. The construction of the abbey began in 1132 and grew to be the largest Cistercian abbey in England.
