Northumbria Byways is a self catering holiday cottage agency specialising in Northumbria and the borders. With over 10 years experience in the holiday business our aim is to offer both a professional and one-to-one service to holidaymakers. Being a privately owned company we have individual knowledge of our properties and take pride in the fact that our fully trained staff have first hand knowledge of Northumberland and are able to answer any queries a customer may have.

All budgets are catered for with sandy beaches, the hills of the Northumberland National Park, Hadrian's Wall and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty just a few examples of what lies close at hand.

Information for Walkers

The area covered by the many cottages in the brochure includes some of the finest walking country in the UK. Whether you prefer breezy hilltops, rural valley routes, national trails or coastal paths this scenically diverse area has something to suit all walkers whatever their preferences and ability.

There are two major national trails in the area, the Pennine Way and the recently opened Hadrian's Wall Path. Both of these can be utilised in circular day walks. Concentrating on the high ground, the Cheviot Hills and the North Pennines offer wild landscapes with outstanding views. In these parts you may well have the path to yourself as you follow the Border Fence between England and Scotland.

For those needing less demanding walks the valleys of the Northumberland National Park offer some superb walks as do the shores of the Kielder Reservoir. Close to Rothbury are the Simonside Hills with their wonderful views across the Coquet Valley.

The Northumberland Coast is wild and full of history with the many castles evidence of the once turbulent fortunes of this area. Pretty harbours and rocky foreshores provide the basis for a variety of walks from which to enjoy this rugged coastline.
