Slip away from the hustle and bustle of people and traffic to this quiet corner of the Lake District. Easily accessible from the A66, yet tucked secretly away down a narrow farm track at the northern end of Bassenthwaite Lake.
Riggs Cottage is a traditional Lakeland cottage dating back to the 17th century set in its own delightful cottage-style garden with a stream running through it, Riggs Cottage is an ideal place from which to explore the northern lakes or simply to "chill out". For the more energetic, there are many walking and mountain biking opportunities right from the door. Riggs Cottage is located near the small hamlet of Routenbeck with the bustling market towns of Keswick and Cockermouth only a short drive away. The renowned Pheasant Inn and Restaurant is ½ a mile away.
Self catering accommodation consists of two double and two twin bedrooms sleeping eight in total. Three bath/shower rooms (one ensuite), a large lounge/dining room with beamed ceilings and Inglenook woodburning fireplace, a study/sunroom, fully fitted kitchen and utility room complete the accommodation.
The cottage has full gas central heating so stays warm and cosy in the Cumbrian winter. In addition there is a Colour TV, video, hi-fi/CD. Outside there is a large cottage garden with garden furniture and BBQ.
Bookings from Saturday to Saturday with Short Breaks available. The cottage is "No Smoking" and pets are welcome. Graded 4 star by the English Tourist Council there is parking for 3 cars.
Information for Walkers
The Lake District offers walks to suit all abilities. Whether it be strenuous mountain routes or more leisurely lakeside hikes the area has plenty to offer. Riggs Cottage is strategically located close to the A66. This road enables visits to other parts of the National Park to be undertaken with ease.
Close at hand is the fourth highest peak in Lakeland - Skiddaw. Despite its height, this fine mountain provides a perfect day in the hills with many moderate routes. The fells at the "back o'Skiddaw" are often neglected by walkers yet they offer solitude and are an easy drive from Riggs Cottage.
For more dramatic scenery the north-western fells between Buttermere and Derwentwater offer a varied selection of more strenuous routes. Beautiful Borrowdale is near at hand and this valley can be used for a walk to the summit of Scafell Pike - the highest peak in England.
Less demanding walks are many and varied. Bassenthwaite, Derwentwater, Buttermere and Crummock Water are lakes offering level walking with dramatic backdrops of high fells.
