This Staffordshire walk starts from bust Norbury Junction on the Shropshire Union Canal. Sadly, it is now longer a junction as the branch canal to Wappenshall Junction where it met the Telford to Shrewsbury canal fell into disuse by the late 1930s and was finally abandoned in 1944. Parking is available on the road opposite the Junction Inn on the grass verge (grid ref. SJ792229).

After parking follow the lane across the canal bridge and continue for 100 metres until you reach a concrete driveway on the left (grid ref. SJ794228). You will see the fingerpost hidden in the hedge on the left-hand side of the drive. Follow the concrete drive to pass Norbury Manor on your right. Shortly after you pass the moat for the original site of the manor. The drive then bears right and reaches a fork (grid ref. SJ796234). Bear left here staying on well-made bridleway along the edge of a large field at the end of which the track turns left and shortly afterwards right to reach the A519.

Turn left along this main road, cross the canal bridge and take the footpath on the left leading down to the towpath of the Shropshire Union Canal. Head south (i.e. with the canal on your left) and continue for about 2 miles passing Norbury Junction in the process. The canal is on embankment for this section with a road running below on your right with woodland on the left of the canal. At grid ref. SJ803215 the road passes under the canal. Take the steps on the right-hand side down to this road.

At the bottom of the steps go right under the bridge. Do take care as traffic has limited visibility when passing under the bridge. Continue with care along this road which climbs through woodland. Reaching a brick cottage on the left, turn left along a waymarked concrete drive. Follow the driveway with Skelmore Wood to your left until the driveway bends right (grid ref. SJ803219). Here leave the driveway and continue straight ahead on a farm track. This track leads to a lane (grid ref. SJ795224). Bear to the right and continue along the lane back to the start.
