The Regent's Canal provides a link from the River Thames at Limehouse Basin to the Grand Union Canal at Little Venice and this walk covers almost its full length of just under 14 kilometres. The start is Limehouse DLR station (grid ref. TQ361811). Exit the station and walk east along the north side of Commercial Road. You soon reach a bridge over the Regent's Canal with steps leading down to the canal and a pair of locks. Turn right so you are on the east side of the canal and walking north with the canal to your left.

The onward route is generally easy to follow. After just over 2km you reach the junction with the Hertford Union Canal which you cross by a footbridge. Staying with the Regent's Canal you continue through to the tunnel at Islington. A path leads you off the towpath and onto Colebrooke Row. Cross the pedestrian crossing and continue straight along Duncan Street to Upper Street (the A1). Turn left and then take the first right, Liverpool Road. Turn left down Chapel Market threading your way between the market stalls. Turn right onto Penton Street and then take the second left, Maygood Street, which leads into a walkway between apartment blocks. Where the path forks, ignore the path to the right and continue straight ahead onto Muriel Street from where you can regain the towpath of the Regent's canal.

Continue following the canal all the way through Camden Town, along the northern side of Regent's Park Zoo and onto Little Venice and the junction with the Grand Union Canal. Note that you may be forced to leave some sections of the towpath if repairs and maintenance work is in progress. From Little Venice. it is a short walk north along Warwick Avenue to the tube station of the same name.
