The Wiltshire village of Castle Combe is often said to be one of the prettiest villages in England. With cream coloured stone cottages lining the streets it is hard to argue against this view. This circular walk offers an insight into the rural beauty of the surrounding countryside and also includes the villages of Ford and North Wraxall.

The start is the parking area above the village and just of the B4039 (grid ref. ST845777). After parking exit the car park and walk downhill into Castle Combe. Keep to the right at the first junction and continue towards the village centre. After approximately 100 metres bear right into a 'private road' following the yellow footpath markers. Continue along this path to meet the MacMillan Way. Turn left into Castle Combe and continue into the Market Place with the Parish Church on your right.

Keep straight ahead along The Street over a bridge. In a further two hundred metres or so turn left over a small bridge across a stream and follow the MacMillan Way to Long Dean and on towards the village of Ford. Reaching a lane (grid ref. ST845750), bear left and walk down to the A420, which runs through the centre of the village of Ford. Turn right along the A420 passing the Parish Church on your right. A little further along bear right onto the Old Coach Road (signed Byway) and follow this lane for just over 1.5 kilometres to reach a lane on the southern side of North Wraxall (grid ref. ST822747). Bear right along the lane into the village and past the church (on your right) to a junction (grid ref. ST817750). Turn right towards Nettleton. After approximately 650 metres taken the signed footpath on the left (grid ref. ST817756).

Cross the first field to a lane. Cross this lane and continue in the same direction to another lane (grid ref. ST815759). Cross this lane and take the track/bridleway opposite. After a kilometre of pleasant walking you reach a junctions of paths (grid ref. ST811770). Here continue on the bridleway heading north east to a road by Parsonage Wood (grid ref. ST813771). Turn right along the road and bear left along the first track and follow this bridleway to a lane (grid ref. ST823769). Turn left along the lane. Take the first bridleway on your right through a metal gate and continue on this well used right of way over a ford (ignore the clapper bridge) and continue roughly eastwards to join the MacMillan Way by Nettleton Mill. Stay on the MacMillan Way back into the centre of Castle Combe.
