This Shropshire walk starts from the attractive village of Wentnor which lies above the East Onny Valley. The route uses field paths and a section of the Shropshire Way to Linley Hill where the beautiful avenue of Beech trees provides an excellent reason for completing this route. The walk then descends to Linley and section of lane walking through Norbury back to the start.
Limited parking is available with some spaces available near the church (grid ref. SO384927). After parking walk north through the village passing the Crown Inn on your right. Continue for 150 metres to reach a fingerpost on the left. Pass through the metal gate and descend on the left side of the field passing through two gates to reach a lane. Turn right, pass a store on the left to reach a T-junction (grid ref. SO381932). Go straight across and follow the track through a caravan site. Cross a bridge over the East Onny river and bear slightly right through "Dingle Field 1" along the left-hand edge. Continue into "Dingle 2" and bear half left up to a stile.
Bear right into a field and follow the path alongside the left-hand fence to a stile. Maintain direction across several fields crossing two stiles. After the second stile turn left and follow the path up to a gate and a track (grid ref. SO377941). Turn right and follow the track as it bends left. Pass through a gate and take the stile on the left. Follow the path with fence on your left to reach a lane (grid ref. SO375942). Turn right and then take the first path with fingerpost on the left. Cross the stile and keep the quarry to your right. Continue to a fence, bear right, and follow yellow waymarks to continue alongside a fence on your left.
Follow the path up to a stile, cross a field to another stile and a bridleway (grid ref. SO371944). Turn right and keeping the fence on your right. Stay with the fence through two gates to reach a fingerpost (grid ref. SO367956). Turn left, pass through a gate and keeping the fence on your left pass through a kissing gate and continue alongside the fence to some gates. Continue into a field rising towards some trees. Head through a gate (grid ref. SO359948), ignore the bridleway on the left and continue along the Shropshire Way.
After passing through another gate, the path veers away from the fence and starts a long descent off Linley Hill. The path then passes between the two rows of the Linley Beeches. After three more gates you join a track. Follow this down to Abbots Lane. Turn left and continue down to a T-junction at Linley (grid ref. SO350934). Turn left and follow the quiet country lane east towards Norbury. After just over a kilometre, you reach a junction.
Bear left up into Norbury. Pass All Saints Church on your right where the Yew Tree is over 2700 years old. Follow the lane, initially downhill, to reach a junction. Bear right here and at the next junction fork left. A further 1.k kilometres through pleasant Shropshire countryside (grid ref. SO379927), Bear left, cross the East Onny River. After a short climb, turn right by a fingerpost onto a path. Follow the track uphill to a lane. Bear right and continue up into Wentnor village.
