This is a great little walk at any time of year, but this one was done in freezing temperatures with about 8 inches of snow on the ground and clear blue skies. Magnificent!

Start from the lay-by on the B5056 that runs from Grangemill to Haddon Hall (Grid ref. SK228618). From here climb up to Robin Hoods Stride on the Limestone Way. Often mistaken by travellers as a house, it's worth ascending the stride, using the large letter "S" as a hand hold on the final big block - but remember you've got to get down!

Stay on the Limestone Way past Hartshill Moor Farm to drop down to Youlgreave. Turn right along Bradford Dale to Alport following the river in this very pleasant part of Derbyshire. Reaching the main road in Alport turn right following the road in the direction of Rowsley. Look out for a footpath sign on the left. This path takes you alongside Baltic Wood and Haddon Plantation down to Haddon Barn on the main A6.

Walk northwest along the A6 past the entrance to Haddon Hall to a small stile on the right hand side of the main road. This leads you across the flood plain of River Wye where it can be muddy especially after heavy rain. Then double back on yourself to Bowling Green Farm and follow the path through woods to Rowsley - Please do not go in the new Shopping Centre as it will only encourage more such developments.

Go across the A6 again and down past the recreation ground to gain the path that goes around Peak Tor to Dove House Farm. Continue up alongside Sheep Walk Wood and up onto Stanton Moor - Good pint of ale in Stanton in the Peak. Go over the moor and down into Birchover emerging at the Druids Inn (another good pint here). Nearly back now, go down the lane at the side of the Druids Inn and descend down to the road.
