An interesting, varied walk in this beautiful area with walker friendly paths and stiles. The major part of the walk is through old woodlands visiting Jenny Brown's Point towards the end of the route. As a short stretch of the walk is along the shore, it is very important to plan this walk avoiding high tide. Those with young children and dogs note there is one unmanned railway crossing, which needs care. The walk starts in Silverdale. Take the signed footpath north west (grid ref SD460749) over the meadows from Shore Road to Cove. On reaching Cove turn right through the gate and proceed up the lane turning right at the main road. Cross over the road to follow the footpath that passes behind the houses signed 'Eaves Wood'. This path gradually climbs up between the houses of Elmslack. On reaching the woods take the wide footpath right, alongside a high wall. At the end of the path (grid ref 470762) you can take the shorter walk by turning right through the car park and crossing over the road to the lane ahead. If your preference is for the longer walk continue straight on through the woods to drop down to the outbuildings of Old Waterslack Farm and The Tea Rooms. Go through the gap in the wall at the bottom of the field opposite, then taking care go over the unmanned railway crossing. Turn right at the lane, then left over the field to the road (grid ref 472764). Turn left along the road to turn right down the wide path after Challan Hall. This path proceeds to the left of Hawes Water (not to be confused with Haweswater Reservoir in The Lakes further north). Follow the path round the Water to reach a gate. Do not go through, but keep straight on with the wall on your left to the lane (grid ref 479764). Walk down the lane to Red Bridge turning right on the main road. Proceed up the road turning left at Park Road then left again. At this point we meet up with the shorter walk. Continue along the lane and on reaching a large pond take the footpath on the right climbing up behind the pond. At a path junction turn right again to follow the path down through the woods to a meadow. Cross the meadow but do not take the stile opposite, instead turn left along the field into the woods taking the path towards Silverdale Green. On reaching the lane, turn left then right at the main road (grid ref 467749). Look out for a lane on the left. Do not go through the gap in the wall behind the information board but continue down to the stile at the end of the lane. Follow the clear path to a road (grid ref 465742). If you have any doubts regarding the tides you can turn right here back to Silverdale. Crossing over the road, the footpath continues through limestone meadows, finally descending steeply to the shore. Turn right following the shoreline to the lane at the other side of Brown's House, passing the tall tower, which was remains of the Copper Smelting Mill (copper was mixed here with tin to make bronze). Proceed up the lane turning left in to the National Trust Site of Jenny Brown's Point and Jack Scout with the cliff top panoramic views of the coves and Morecambe Bay. Make your way down to the fence following the path that leads you past a small limekiln back to the lane. Turn left passing Lindeth Tower then left at the road that leads you back to the start.
