Thirlmere is probably the least scenic of the Lakes suffering from an overdose of conifers. However climbing Helvellyn from Wythburn you are soon clear of the trees and are able to enjoy the beauty of the scene. The left-hand horizon is filled with the bulk of Skiddaw whilst to the right Blencathra's western slopes are in view.
