Cann viaduct is one of three viaducts on the walk

Cann viaduct is one of three viaducts on the walk. This is the point where our route leaves the canal towpath and climbs to the old railway track. The Plymouth to Tavistock railway opened in the early years of the 20th century and was closed as part of the infamous "Beeching" cuts. The supports of an older bridge dating from the mid 1800s can be seen below the viaduct. The whole area of Cann Quarry is rich in historical remains and the National Trust have created excellent interpretation boards.
