At the Strid the banks of Aira Beck narrow to a gap only a yard wide

The "Strid" - a piece of Cumbrian dialect meaning stride. At the Strid the banks of Aira Beck narrow to a gap only a yard wide when the beck is not in flood conditions. The crossing is not as easy as it looks as the rocks are slippery. A footbridge 200 yards down stream avoids the obstacle.
