Doddington Hall is a very fine late Elizabethan Mansion, completed in 1600. It was built by Robert Smythson for Thomas Tailor who was the registrar to the Bishop of Lincoln. In 1749, the hall was inherited by John Delaval of Seaton Delaval in Northumberland, who carried out an extensive redesign of the interior, not changing the house's exterior. In 1830 George Jarvis inherited the house. Since 2006, the hall has been the family home of Claire and James Birch. Around the village of Doddington there are lots of places to explore on foot or by bicycle. The network of country roads and bridleways provide opportunities to discover other local amenities.

1 - To enjoy a circular route around Doddington, begin in the main car park across from the hall and turn right onto the road, so that the church is on your left. Walk a short way until you see Kennel Lane on your right.

2 - Turn right into Kennel Lane and follow this, through the houses and out along a grassy bridleway. Follow this into woodland and continue on, past the ponds of the rendering works, until you reach a T-junction.

3 - Turn right and follow this track around the barrier, along the edge of the works until you emerge onto the road. Continue right and follow the road for 2.4 miles over two crossroads. After the second crossroad, look for a public bridleway which leads right along the very edge of woodland just before you reach open fields.

4 - Turn right onto this bridleway and follow this track, with panoramic views over the Trent Valley, back to Doddington village and the road.

5 - Turn left and after a very short distance, the car park is on your right.
