Book Review - The Hillwalker's Manual

book coverBill Birkett has produced some excellent books on the Lake District and now turns his hand to more general hill and mountain skills. This book covers in some detail every aspect of hillwalking from weather, through equipment and navigation to survival and photography.

East to read and well illustrated few hillwalkers will know everything that is covered in the is useful volume and the missing knowledge may be crucial. I found the section on winter skills particularly interesting and this is well balanced by summer skills with lightning safety of particular note.
