Walk Route Description

This short walk explores a section of Haworth Moor before descending to the pretty Brontë Bridge. The route returns across the moors offering wide ranging views of this part of the South Pennines. After heavy rain the walk can be wet underfoot so choose a period of dry weather. However there needs to be some water on the moor for the waterfalls to be more dramatic!
The start is the small car park (Grid ref. SE018361) adjacent to the toilets on Moor Side Lane that runs northwest from Oxenhope. Exit the car park and cross the road. Take the left hand track to Drop farm keeping the wall to your left. Pass Drop F arm and follow the clear path with the wall on your left that continues straight ahead. You reach a junction of paths (Grid ref. SE011356). Do not go right but instead bear half right away from the wall and across the moor. In paces the going is a bit sticky after rain but you soon reach a clear track. Bear left along the track and make for Harbour Lodge, which is visible some way ahead on the track. Just before reaching this house, turn right off the track down a signed path to Brontë Bridge.
The narrow path leads downhill to pass some small waterfalls before reaching a beautiful dell with a stone bridge across South Dean Beck. This is the Brontë Bridge and it makes a pleasant place to rest awhile and enjoy the scenery. To continue, do not cross the bridge but take the path going downstream. Almost immediately this path climbs away from the beck onto the moor. At grid ref. SE010363, turn right on a path across the moor. At times the path fades but generally heads due south to reach a clear track. Turn left and follow the track back to the road. Turn right along the road and you soon reach the start of the walk.
