Walk Route Description

This walk includes a section of the Staffordshire Way and a section of the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. The linear route assumes the use of a regular bus service from the start but could also be completed if you have two cars. Generally the Staffordshire Way is well marked so navigation is not problematic. The walk traverses typical countryside of the area and there are views to Cannock Chase in the east and the Wrekin and Shropshire Hills in the west.

Parking is available close to the Radford Inn (grid ref. SJ940216) on the A34 Cannock Road just under two miles from Stafford town centre. Arriva route 74 (Stafford to Cannock via Brocton ) currently runs hourly throughout the week. Use this service and alight at Joyce's Lane, Bednall (grid ref. SJ965180) where the Staffordshire Way crosses the main A34.

After alighting follow Joyce's Lane towards the village of Bednall. On your right is the Staffordshire Way which is followed across fields and along a lane into Bednall. Turn right at the first junction and then left at the next, Cock Lane. Follow this quiet country lane for approximately 800 yards (grid ref. SJ953169) where the private access road for Teddesley Home Farm is joined.

Continue ahead for a short way and locate the Staffordshire Way sign on the right. This leads you across fields and through a small area of woodland to Parkgate Lock on the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. Turn right along the canal (with the canal on your right) and walk along the towpath. There follows a lengthy section of canalside walking through Acton Trussell back to the start.
