This Glenlivet walk starts from near Tomnavoulin and explores the hills lying to the west of the village. The main objective of the walk is an ascent of Carn Daimh (570 m.). The walk also follows a section of the Speyside Way and offers some excellent views of the area which lies just inside the boundaries of the Cairngorms National Park.

The start is the Clash Wood car park (grid ref. NJ209265) which lies a short distance northwest of Tomnavoulin village. After parking, head through the gate adjacent to the information board and follow the track into the wood. The track bends right and then curves left. Continue to the end of the trees and turn left across with the trees on your left a field to reach a pair of tracks in 150 metres (grid ref. NJ205261). Cross the first track and then turn right along the second track. Continue past Westertown (on your right). Continue on the track as it crosses a burn. Cross a stile and continue heading south through a plantation and then fields.

Cross another stile (with waymark) and follow path through a wet section through gates to a gate at the corner of the plantation ahead. Stay on the track along the edge of the trees. The track then curves right into the trees to reach a junction with a signpost (grid ref. NJ191235). Turn right onto the Speyside Way (signed Ballindalloch). Continue to a gate at the edge of the plantation. Follow the clear path to the summit of Carn Diamh. The views are excellent and include the high Cairngorm mountains to the south.

The descent heads north with a plantation to your left. Reaching the end of the trees pass through gate and follow the onward path across the western flank of Carn Liath. The path continues north towards another plantation. Pass through a gate to continue along the Speyside Way between trees. The path soon leaves the trees and follows the left-hand field edge to a stile. Cross the stile and join a track which is followed to reach a lane (grid ref. NJ190284).

Turn right and then first left. The lane descends towards Glenlivet Distillery. Turn right just before a telephone box and continue into Lower Castleton. Pass Blairfindy Castle on your left and continue through the village to the end of the road. Go through gate and follow a grassy track across several fields. After 800 metres (grid ref. NJ203276), turn right onto a path that leads you to a lane. Turn left along the lane and continue for just over a kilometre back to the start.
