Circular walk from Farthingstone explores the Northamptonshire countryside around the village. The route also passes through Litchborough. Both the villages visited during the walk have many buildings constructed from the local ironstone. In addition, Litchborough and Farthingstone have fine parish churches and manor houses.

Limited on street parking is available on Main Street (grid ref. SP614550) near the parish church in Farthingstone. After parking turn left in front of the church along Maidford Road. Follow the road as it bends to the right passing a fine terrace of cottages on the left. Turn right onto the first footpath (signed Knightley Way). Cross a paddock to a stile and continue across another paddock. Keep high hedge on your right, cross two more stiles and pass to the left of a small pond. Cross a footbridge and walk half left across the field to a fingerpost.

Cross a track (grid ref. SP607552) and enter a field. Follow the hedge on the right-hand boundary and continue to the corner. Turn left and at the next field corner cross a footbridge. Turn left and keep the hedge on your left to reach the edge of woodland. Turn right and follow the field edge with trees on your left up to a lane (grid ref. SP598555). Turn left along the lane. After 500 metres turn left onto a bridleway (Knightley Way) with trees on your left. At the end of the wood maintain direction keeping the field boundary on your left. Continue beside Knightley Wood passing through a gate on the left before continuing with hedge now on your left.

Continue beside the hedge for a kilometre along a clear track to reach Maidford Lane (grid ref. SP608537). Cross the lane to a stile and continue along the right-hand edge of fields for just over a kilometre to reach a lane. Reach a junction, turn left onto Banbury Road, and continue into Litchborough. After 400 metres you reach Kiln Lane on the left (grid ref. SP630542). Note - you can continue into the village to visit the church and The Old Red Lion.

Turn into Kiln Lane and follow grassy path between houses to a stile. Veer half-right to a footbridge and stiles between trees. Keep to the right-hand edge of the field to cross a track (grid ref. SP626544). Continue half left across the next field to a gate. Bear half right across the next field another gate. Walk half-right across the next field. Pass through a gap and cut across the corner of the next field. Entering the next field, walk half-right to reach a footbridge (grid ref. SP620548). Continue with hedge on your left to another footbridge. Continue half right across the next field to another stile and footbridge. Continue ahead keeping right of barns to reach Litchborough Road. Turn left and return to the start in Farthingstone.
