This Nottinghamshire walk visits the landscaped parkland surrounding Newstead Abbey, the former ancestral home of Lord Byron. The route starts from the attractive village of Linby on the B6011 where limited on street parking is available at grid ref SK535510 in lay-bys near the Horse and Groom public house.

After parking and with your back to the pub, walk to the left using the pavement on the opposite side of the road to the pub. After 400 metres cross the road to join the signed footpath on the left just before the 50 mph road signs. Follow this path, with the hedge to your left across a field past a small pond to reach a driveway. Bear right along the driveway and continue to Main Street (B683) at grid ref. SK548514.

Turn left along this main road using the pavement and continue for about 400 metres and turn left into Hall Lane. You are now on the Robin Hood Way long distance path and this is followed for about 2 km passing Newstead Abbey on your left. The surfaced lane bends left and then right to reach a 'crossroads' (grid ref. SK544541).

Turn left and continue towards the front of Newstead Abbey. Bear right at the driveway to the Abbey, and bear right again at the next junction to pass the southern end of the Upper Lake, which is to your immediate right. The driveway twists through woodland to join Station Avenue (grid ref. SK537535) which is followed for 1.5 km to reach the Linby Trail on your left (grid ref. SK525528).

Turn left following the Linby Trail, which turns sharp right to run parallel to Station Ave before turning left to run parallel with the railway on your right. Follow the Linby Trail for just under 2 km to reach a roundabout on the B6011 (grid ref. SK533508). Turn left in the village of Linby and the start of the walk.
