Mansions & Parklands from Great Gaddesden
Introduction to Walk 2999

Photo from the walk - Mansions & Parklands from Great Gaddesden

Region - Chilterns

County/Area - Hertfordshire

Author - Donald Morton

Length - 7.0 miles / 11.4 km

Ascent - 560 feet / 170 metres

Time - 4 hours 0 minutes

Grade - easy/mod

This Hertfordshire walk is over the undulating plateau of the Chiltern dip slope, through the parklands of some of the 18th Century mansions which dot the Chilterns. Although the land is now more given over to arable agriculture, the landscape is still greatly influenced by the great designers, including Capability Brown, especially where it is still used for grazing and remains as open park. A walk with great views over the Gade valley and a revelation of the life style of baronets and local squires in the 1700s and the lesser houses of their tenants. A GPS File is available for download (see walk description).

Please maintain social distancing - keep at least 2 metres away from other walkers. Travel restrictions for exercise in Wales and Scotland will be lifted in early July.
