Walk from Linton (Kent) exploring a section of the greensand ridge of sandstone which is rich in the green iron-mineral glauconite. The ridge is followed by the Greensand Way which is followed for part of this route. The walk also features the deer park of Broughton Monchelsea Place and the glorious parkland of Linton Park which contrast with the extensive orchards in the final section of the walk. The ridge offers some excellent views with the topograph at Monchelsea parish church adding detail to the view.

The walk starts from the car park for St Nicholas Church car park on the east side of the A229 at Linton (grid ref. TQ754502). After parking walk towards the church and pass through a gate into the churchyard. Follow tarmac path turning right and then left at a T-junction to exit the churchyard onto the Greensand Way (GW). Turn left and continue to the driveway to Linton Park. Cross the drive and continue along the GW to reach a lane, Church Hill (grid ref. TQ771500).

Turn right for a short diversion down to Monchelsea parish church to visit the toposcope at the bottom left-hand corner of the churchyard before returning up the lane to turn right at a fingerpost to continue along the GW. Pass through a kissing gate and follow enclosed path to a path junction (grid ref. TQ779500) and turn right leaving the GW. Follow the descending enclosed path through a left-hand turn and down to a gap in the hedge on the left. Pass through the gap and turn right, cross a footbridge on the right, continue through kissing gate and head across a field passing the southern end of a pond in Broughton Monchelsea Deer Park and walk half-right across grass to a get in the corner and a lane (grid ref. TQ774495).

Bear right along the lane. Continue ahead to a T-junction and turn left. Turn right over the next stile by a fingerpost and follow path along the right-hand edge of the field, pass through woodland and across a field to a kissing gate and Loddington Lane (grid ref. TQ763495). Turn left along the lane, pass metal gates on the right, and the turn right through a hedge gap onto an unmarked footpath along the right-hand field edge. Cross a stile into Linton Park. Continue beside railings on your right, cross stile and continue with railing on your left with views to the house. Reaching the A229, turn right and turn left along Wheelers Lane. After 650 metres, turn left along Barnes Lane. Continue ahead at the next junction to reach Bon Fleur Lane/Westerhill Road (grid ref. TQ742499).

Turn left and bear right over stile by metal farm gate with adjacent fingerpost. Follow path beside Bonfleur Cross Country Course following waymarks along field edges crossing a footbridge along the way. Continue along path with a hedge on your right and cross footbridge on the right and head up steps into an orchard. In theory, the path runs diagonally left across the orchard, but it is easier to turn left and continue around the edge of the orchard, turning right at the end of the trees and shortly after left to a kissing gate and Redwall Lane (grid ref. TQ735493). Turn right and continue to the next junction and bear right. Almost immediately, turn right off the lane to follow unsigned path to the right of a cottage. The onward path heads north gently uphill following field edge tracks. Keep ahead at all cross tracks.

After a kilometre from the cottage and lane, bear left along an enclosed path which swings right and starts climbing more steeply. Ignore a path on the right and take time to enjoy the view behind you. Continue uphill to the GW (grid ref. TQ736506). Turn right, soon passing Reason Hill Oast. Cross Westerhill Road and continue along the GW crossing a footbridge before reaching Vanity Lane. The final section of the walk continues beside more orchards before reaching the A229 with the Linton church car park entrance opposite.
