A circular walk from the attractive village of Longstock which lies a short distance north of Stocksbridge in the Test Valley. The route follows byways, footpaths and lanes to explore the downland west and north of the village. The highlight of the route is Danebury Hill Fort which was constructed in 600 BC and occupies a strategic location with extensive views.

The walk starts from Church Road in Longstock (grid ref. SU359371) where limited parking is available in a layby by the side of the church. After parking walk up Church Road soon passing the cemetery on the right. When the tarmac ends, continue ahead up a clear track. The track descends to a rough parking area and a road (grid ref. SU336376). Bear right along the road and keep left along the main road for 350 metres using the grass verge where possible. Turn left into Danebury Iron Age Hill Fort. Follow the access road uphill past the second car park and continue past the OS trig column to the hillfort. A path circles the site which offers some fine views across the surrounding area. After exploring the site walk back down to the main road and turn right up to the next junction. Turn sharp left, signed to The Clatfords, and after 400 metres turn right onto a restricted byway.

Pass beside the barrier and follow a clear track. After a kilometre where the track bends right to a farm, continue ahead along a track for a further two kilometres to reach a road (grid ref. SU359392). Cross to the restricted byway opposite and walk for just under two kilometres to reach Longstock Park Road. The road soon runs beside Longstock Park with its water garden open to the public. Pass the entrance driveway to Longstock House on your right and continue to the entrance to Waitrose and Partners Farm also on the right. Opposite this entrance, turn left onto a footpath with adjacent fingerpost. The path runs across fields and leads to the road through Longstock village. Continue ahead past the Peat Spade Pub and back to the start in Church Road.
