This North Yorkshire walk starts from the attractive village of Hunmanby which is considered by many to be the gateway to the Yorkshire Wolds. The route uses sections of two relatively quiet long-distance paths, the Centenary Way and Yorkshire Wolds Way, to explore the gently rolling countryside to the north west of the village.

Parking in Hunmanby is available on Bridlington Street and Church Hill (grid ref. TA075774) in the centre of the village. After parking walk north, passing the Market Cross and fine parish church on your right. Continue uphill into Castle Hill following the road as it swings to the left. Reaching a mini-roundabout go straight ahead into Malton Road using the pavement on the right. Reaching the end of the 30-mph speed limit, stay on the grass verge and continue uphill to reach a signed footpath on the left (grid ref. TA088775) walking along the driveway to Windmill House and Field House Farm. You are now on the Centenary Way.

Continue past Windmill House following the driveway to Field House Farm (grid ref. TA081768). Where the main drive goes right, walk straight ahead to pass the house on your right. Walk past the farm buildings, turn right along a track and then left to follow the right of way. Stay on the undulating path through open countryside to reach a junction of tracks in just under a mile (grid ref. TA070759). Turn right and walk downhill along the track for just under half a mile to reach the junction with the Yorkshire Wolds way (grid ref. TA066776).

Continue ahead, leaving the Centenary Way, to walk north through wooded Stocking Dale. Reaching Long Plantation (grid ref. TA06877), turn right and follow the track to Stockendale Farm, and a road (grid ref. TA074782). Cross the road and take the track opposite following it for just over half a mile. Care is needed at this point. Look out for a gap in the hedge on your right (grid ref. TA079792) where the Yorkshire Wolds Way bears right across field to reach the A1039 just west of the village of Muston. Following a realignment of the path, the right of way runs parallel to the road in the field on the south side of the road. This avoids an unpleasant stretch of road walking.

Entering Muston, walk through the village using the pavement to reach the A165. It is easiest to cross to the right-hand side of the A1039 before reaching the junction with the A165. Turn right and follow this often-busy main road to the next roundabout. Take care crossing the road here, and turn right here joining the Centenary Way which will lead you back to Hunmanby. Stay on the track passing North Moor Farm to join Northgate at the edge of a housing estate. Continue along Northgate back to Castle Hill and the centre of the Hunmanby.
