John Muir Country Park is located on the East Lothian coastline north of Dunbar. The area offers a range of wildlife habitats including mixed woodland and fine sandy beaches. Dedicated to naturalist, explorer and conservationist, John Muir, the country park offers something for everyone including Ravensheugh Sands which stretch for two kilometres with views to Bass Rock. Before setting out, check the tide time as the beach is covered at high tide.

The walk starts from the Tyninghame Links pay and display car park (grid ref. NT627809) which is located at the eastern end of Limetree Walk leading from the A198 at Five gates. After parking walk to the end of the parking area and bear right, passing through a gap to the left of a wooden gate. Follow the clear path for 600 metres to reach the shore. Turn left and follow a path along the rocky foreshore to reach a low-lying rocky headland (St Baldred's Cradle). Bear left off the headland onto Ravensheugh Beach.

Continue along the beach to reach the outflow of Peffer Burn. (If tides permit continue ahead to reach Scoughall Rocks and return to Peffer Burn.) Retrace your steps across the beach for approximately 200 metres and turn right to follow a path inland through the dunes (grid ref. NT622823). Continue through two gates to reach a track and turn left on a path signed to Tyninghame Links. After 800 metres the path heads right to reach a path junction at the edge of Brownrig Wood. Pass beside the gate and join the second path on the left. This leads to a gate and the car park.
