"Where the great outdoors meets the great indoors - Langdale"

The English Lake District is one of fifty places worldwide that National Geographic states is a must to visit, and there is no better way to see it than on foot while staying in luxury on the Langdale Estate with a wide choice of accommodation, places to dine and facilities to enjoy.

Best selling guidebook author and landscape photographer, Tom Lawton says about Langdale, 'The Great Langdale Valley is situated virtually at the centre of the Lake District National Park. This is an area of quite outstanding natural beauty where craggy fells and stretches of tranquil waters blend together in perfect harmony to create a rugged, mountainous beauty; a landscape which seems to have been moulded by the forces of nature specially for the benefit of walkers.'

The Estate is also ideally situated for walking throughout the National Park whether you are keen on short, medium or more strenuous routes - the topography is unique with placid lakes, tiny tarns, meandering rivers, gushing waterfalls, tranquil woodlands, dense forested areas, sheltered valleys and exposed fells all squeezed together by the violent forces of nature to create a compact countryside of endless variation. In addition there is a multitude of places of interest to be discovered along the way - Brantwood, Dove Cottage, Castlerigg Stone Circle, Rheged Visitor Centre, Fell Foot Park, Mediobognum Roman Fort, Rydal Mount - these are just a few. A sail on the National Trust steam yacht Gondola or a ride on the narrow gauge Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway are just two novel ways of reaching the starting point of interesting walks.

Tracing its history back to the Middle Ages when it began life as a small woollen mill and later developed as a gunpowder manufacturing site, the historic Langdale Estate still uses many of the original gunpowder buildings throughout the 35 acre site of woodland, streams and tarns. It has two restaurants, a traditional Lakeland pub and an outstanding Country Club with indoor swimming pool, sauna, spa bath and steam room. We also have a regular schedule of activities including rock climbing, ghyll scrambling, abseiling to name a few. You can choose from luxury en-suite hotel bedrooms many with whirl or air baths, telephones, Satellite TV or from our award winning self-catering accommodation that sleep from four to eight people.
