The Fife Coastal Footpath has a useful bus service running parallel to the route connecting the many villages and points of interest. This section from Pittenweem to Crail is a straightforward walk and can be completed either using two cars or the regular bus service connecting the start and end of the walk.
From the main road through Pittenweem take one of the side roads down to the harbour where usually there is some activity to distract you before heading north along the Fife Coastal Path to Crail. Walk east along the seafront initially following the B948 (Abbey Wall Road) before bearing right onto the signed footpath to Crail.
The path leads you past Anstruther Golf Course and onto a tarmac road. This leads into Shore Road which is followed to Cricht Street where you turn left. Reaching the main A917, turn right and stay on the main road across the river to bear right down to the harbour.
Continue along the harbour passing the lifeboat station. There is no coastal path for the next section of the route and you follow James Street, John Street and George Street to reach Skinfast Haven where you can see the sea once more! The onward path is signed to Crail and you return to a path beside the foreshore for the remaining walk to Crail. The final descent into Crail provides a fine view of the village and harbour.
The coastal bus service follows the main A917 through the village if you wish to use a bus to return to the start.
