This Hertfordshire walk makes use of the Chiltern Way, The Grand Union Canal, and the Hertfordshire Way to form a pleasant loop in the Bulbourne Valley near Hemel Hempstead, one of the first post war new towns. This was conceived as “a town in a park”, so part of the walk actually cuts through the town which, apart from a short stretch, cannot be seen from the route - a tribute to post war planners. The canal stretch provides plenty of opportunity for observing wild life and there is a pub half way round and another at the end for refreshment. Suggested Maps It is recommended you take a map with you when following a walk route. The preferred scale is 1:25000 used by the Explorer series.
Note : If two maps are listed at the same scale then either (a) both are required for full coverage of the route or (b) the route is covered on both maps.
