This is a gentle ramble over the fertile upland plateau of East Hertfordshire – all within 2 miles of the Essex border – with wide extensive views. It is a country where the scattered settlements are based on the existence of a large hall belonging to a predominant family, and even now there are large areas with no made roads. Instead the trackways still exist in their green state so virtually all this walk is on paths wide enough to allow two people to walk comfortably side by side. Suggested Maps It is recommended you take a map with you when following a walk route. The preferred scale is 1:25000 used by the Explorer series.
Note : If two maps are listed at the same scale then either (a) both are required for full coverage of the route or (b) the route is covered on both maps.
