Walk from Brockenhurst explores the woodland and heathland of the New Forest National Park. The route follows good paths, bridleways and cycleways and samples the unique landscape of this National Park. The walk starts from Brockenhurst railway station (grid ref. SU301020) which is served by trains between Bournemouth, Southampton and Waterloo. If travelling by car there are carparks nearby and along the route.
Exit the station and walk to the level crossing at the north end of the station. Turn right along the A337 and then left along Mill Lane (B3055 signed to Beaulieu). After 200 metres turn right by Reynolds Cottage and follow a by-way south to reach Church Lane. Turn left by the church. The lane curves right and 200 metres from the church turn left down a path between hedges (grid ref. SU306015). Follow the bridleway through woodland for a mile to reach a junction by Roydon Manor (grid ref. SU316003). Turn left through gates with blue arrow.
Continue ahead to reach Dilton Farm (grid ref. SU331009). Turn right opposite the first barn and then left and follow waymarks around the buildings and continue east to reach a gate on the edge of the heath (grid ref. SU336008). Pass through the gate and turn right. After 200 metres turn sharp left and follow path across the heath to reach a cycleway (grid ref. SU345012). Turn left and follow cycleway northwest to Hedge Corner. Fork left along cycleway for 500 metres and then turn right to a pond (grid ref. SU333020).
Turn left along a tarmac drive and continue to the B3055. Go straight across, continue along drive, cross the railway and turn left at a cross track (grid ref. SU325037). Continue past Victoria Tilery Cottage to approach the car park at Standing Hat (grid ref. SU315036). Turn left before the car park and follow the cycleway to the B3055. Walk ahead along the B3055 and turn left on the A337 to walk through Brockenhurst village centre back to the start.

Further Information
New Forest Walking
The New Forest became a National Park in 2005, the first for many years and the first ever in South East England. Located between the urban areas of Southampton and Bournemouth it is bounded by the Solent. The National Park is dominated by open expanses of semi-natural vegetation including heathland, bogs, woodlands and streams. This environment is maintained through the grazing of thousands of New Forest ponies and cattle.
