A short circular walk from Tetbury exploring the countryside and the Cotswolds town. The route follows paths, bridleways, and a short section along a lane with the final section of the walk following the Monarch's Way. At the end of the walk a short diversion allows you to explore the town which is dominated by the spire of the parish church. Much of the town dates to the 16th and 17th centuries with the pillared market house the most notable.

The start is the car park at the old Tetbury railway station (grid ref. ST893932). After parking return to the entrance and turn right along Herd Lane passing behind the Royal Oak. Keep ahead and after 500 metres pass through a gate into Preston Park. The path crosses a footbridge over the infant River Avon and soon passes the source of this river. Once over the bridge turn right through a get and then head left to join the old railway formation. After just over a kilometre the bridleway leads through a get onto a lane (Newton Hill).

Turn right up the lane across the flank of Lark Hill on your left. The lane soon levels off as it crosses the Cotswold plateau. Keep ahead at the first junction and 1.5 kilometres from joining the lane you reach a footpath fingerpost and stile on the right (grid ref. ST910932) and a fingerpost on the left. Turn right and you are now following the Monarch's Way. The path soon passes a small pond and continues along the right-hand side of a field to a stile. Bear slightly right across the next field and then between a group of barns following a clear track. Keep ahead when the track forks and continue to a gate and stile. The onward path leads down to the B4014.

Turn right and just before the river bridge cross the road to a no-through road on the left. Follow the lane past some houses, cross the river and then bear right up to a gate. Once through the gate turn right and follow the path which runs beside woodland on your right. Cross a stile and maintain direction to reach a kissing gate and the A433. Turn right and then immediately veer right to follow a track by the side of a cottage. The track descends, passes through arches beneath the A433. The lane then climbs up to West Street. Turn right to the A433 (Church Street) and turn left. Continue past the Visitor Information Centre to reach a crossroads (mini roundabout) by the Tetbury Market House. Turn right past the Snooty Fox. At the next junction with telephone box, turn left into Gumstool Hill. Pass beside a gate and turn right and the car park entrance is on the right.
