This excellent circular walk from Weag's Bridge in the Manifold Valley explores the high ground lying between the valleys of the River Hamps and the River Manifold. The route follows good paths and tracks and includes s section of the Manifold Trail. Weag's Bridge can be easily accessed either from Grindon or Wetton.

The start is a large car park (grid ref. SK100542) beside the River Manifold on the west bank of the river near Weag's Bridge. After parking walk back towards the bridge (do not cross) and continue ahead on the right-hand cycle path which is part of the Manifold Trail. This path follows the formation of the Leek & Manifold Light Railway which closed before the second World War. After crossing the third bridge over the River Hamps, bear left through a gate into Old Soles Wood. The path climbs into a steep sided side valley through woodland. Entering open farmland, you join a grassy track which comes in from the left with a wall on your left. Nearing the end of this field veer left through a gate and follow the wall now on your right. Continue ahead over several fields to reach Farwall Lane (grid ref. SK104518).

Cross the lane to a clear track signed Slade House Farm. Follow the track for 700 metres to pass a small wood on the left. Just before the first building turn left to join a signed path heading northeast over pastures. Maintain direction mostly with a wall on your right to reach a cross wall after 800 metres (grid ref. SK1140516). Pass through the wall and walk half-right heading for the bottom right-hand corner of the field. Pass through the wall and follow the onward path with a wall on your left. In the second field where the wall bends right, bear left, and follow the path across fields down to a get and a lane just outside Rushley village (grid ref. SK123515).

Turn left up the lane (following the Manifold Trail) and continue for nearly two kilometres up to Throwley Hall (grid ref. SK110526). Reaching Throwley Hall pass through a gate, pass a barn on the left, follow the lane to the left and then turn right to a fingerpost which directs you along the continuing Manifold Trail. Turn left through gate. The path heads half right across a field to join a track. Pass through a gate with a small wood on the left. The onward path descends across a field to join a track which is followed down to the Manifold Valley and Weag's Bridge.
