A short circular walk that explores countryside, heath and a pioneering section of canal – the River Wey Navigation. The Wey was one of the first rivers in England to be made navigable; the River Wey Navigation opened in 1653, with twelve locks between Weybridge and Guildford. Later canals were mostly built away from rivers, so this section of canal remains unique. The New Inn at Cartbridge provides a suitable stop for refreshments overlooking the canal.

The walk starts from a small layby on the right towards the eastern end of Moor Lane about 100 metres before the two-way footpath fingerpost (grid ref. TQ009561). After parking walk towards the fingerpost and turn right to another fingerpost. Bear half-left and continue through a metal gate to follow clear track heading south along the right-hand field boundary. Continue into the next field after the track bends left and follow path with a hedge on your left. The path passes through woodland onto Robinhood Lane (grid ref. TQ007553).

Turn left along the lane and bear right along Sutton Green Road at the first junction. After 150 metres turn left at a fingerpost onto the access drive leading to Wareham's Farm. After passing farm, turn left along a narrow path between fields which leads to the River Wey Navigation. Cross Wareham's Bridge and turn left along the towing path (grid ref. TQ013546). Pass Triggs Lock, cross a footbridge and follow river north towards Send. Pass Worsfold Gates Lock and continue to reach a road bridge with the New Inn on your right (grid ref. TQ018561). Turn left across the road bridge and then left down to the towpath. Turn left under the bridge and continue along the towpath, still heading north.

The river soon bends right to head east. Continue to reach Highbridge. Leave the towpath and turn left through trees, cross a footbridge over a drain and over a bridge across Broadmead Cut. Ten metres after the bridge, turn left and follow grassy path which follows the river for 350 metres before swinging half-right across heathland initially aiming for St Peter's Church. Pass to the left of a bunker and continue to a wooden gate and the A247 (grid ref. TQ019567). Bear right along the main road and turn left at the roundabout. After 250 metres turn left into Gresham Park Road leading the Gresham Mill.

Cross a bridge and continue to join a narrow waymarked path on the right of the luxury apartments. Turn right and then left over a concrete footbridge. The path passes through woodland and then follows the left-hand edge of a large field with Fisher's Farm ahead. At the end of the large field just before the farm, turn sharp right and follow path across the field to a footbridge. The path crosses the bridge and joins a track between hedges to rejoin the outward route. Bear right and then next left back to the start in Moor Lane.
