This walk from Criccieth explores an area of the Llŷn Peninsula lying west of this popular resort. The route follows a section of the Wales Coast Path before turning inland to the village of Llanstumdwy from where country lanes are used to regain the start.

The walk starts from the pay and display car park on West Parade (grid ref. SH495377). After parking follow the path to the right of the shelter to reach the sea front. Turn right (with the sea on your left) and follow the Wales Coast Path which follows the top of the low cliffs with a fence to your right. Continue past a house on your right to reach a metal gate. Pass through the gate on the clear path ahead. You pass another house on the left and soon can enjoy a view ahead along the coast.

Reaching the end of the hedge on your left, the view improves with the retrospective view including the mountains of Snowdonia (Eryri). The path crosses a short boardwalk and then runs parallel to a gravel track on your right. Another section of easy level walking along the back of the pebble beach leads to the mouth of the Afon Dwyfor (grid ref. SH479373). The route continues alongside the river, crosses a lengthy section of boardwalk, and continues to a metal kissing gate. Entering a field, the path follows the fence on the left to reach another kissing gate with an adjacent three-way fingerpost (SH472374).

Turn right here and follow the path and then track with the fence on your right. Continue ahead crossing the railway with care. Continue along the track to Aberkin Farm where you continue between the buildings to join the access drive. Continue ahead to reach the A497. Cross this main road with care and join the footpath opposite which soon leads into a track with houses to your right. Continue to reach a road in the centre of Llanstumdwy. This village was the childhood home of David Lloyd George and there is a museum in the village.

Turn left along the road and almost immediately right following the brown sign to Lloyd George Grave. You soon pass his grave on your left. Continue ahead along this lane for just over two kilometres. Passing the fishery on your left you have another 800 metres to walk before reaching 30 mph signs with houses ahead. Turn right here following cycle route 8. Continue along this lane to reach the A497. Cross the road with care and turn left to take the first road on the right (Lôn Fêl) with a brown sign to the castle. Cross the small stone bridge and continue back to the start.
