Information for Walkers
The Exmoor National Park offers a diverse range of walking to suit all abilities and ages. Porlock is well placed for many great walks. The highest point of Exmoor is Dunkery Beacon which is set amidst the wild moorland that many think is typical of the National Park. This like all of the upland moors can be easily reached from Porlock.
In contrast to the high moors is the dramatic coast with high cliffs offering magnificent views across the Bristol Channel to the Brecon Beacons in South Wales. The South West Coast Path offers the best way of exploring the coast although do remember that some sections are very challenging with many ups and downs.
Between the coast and moors lie some beautiful valleys including some that were used as a basis for the novel Lorna Doone. These valleys offer some wonderful walking including some paths that explore the mature woodlands so typical of the area.
