A walk from Beaumaris combining coast and countryside. The route follows the Wales Coast Path north along the Menai Strait with views to the mountains of Snowdonia and to the Great Orme in Llandudno. Just before reaching Lleiniog, the route turns inland towards Llangoed along a shallow wooded valley. The walk then turns south across countryside to return to Beaumaris where a visit to the uncompleted castle completes the day.

The walk starts from The Green car park (grid ref. SH609761) in Beaumaris close to the castle by the Menai Strait. After parking walk north with the sea on your right. Continue to a pair of white gates and pass through the kissing gate to the left of the gates. Follow the Wales Path which gently climbs onto a low hill offering a view to the mainland. Descend to a kissing gate and follow steps down beside a wall and soon turn left up steps to the pavement alongside the road. Follow the road north for 350 metres and turn right at a fingerpost (grid ref. SH611776).

Continue along the road to a fingerpost and turn right onto the beach and turn left. Note the beach is not accessible at high tide. Tides can be checked at Tide Times and make sure you have over an hour before high tide before continuing. After passing some houses there is a section of low cliffs before reaching the outflow of Afon Lleiniog (grid ref. SH620790). Turn inland off the beach and follow a path to reach a road. Turn left along the road for 150 metres and turn right onto a signed footpath. Follow gravel path to a junction and turn right. Continue ahead through trees to join a track with Afon Lleiniog on your right. At the next footpath junction just before a house, turn left and pass the house on your right. Continue to a kissing gate, bear left below gardens to the next gate and walk through trees to eventually exit up steps to a road (grid ref. SH609790).

Turn left along the road and take the first signed footpath on the right through woodland. The path soon becomes enclosed and passes a caravan site. The path leads onto a track and turn left to pass a building. Ignore a short track on the right and continue to sign showing the footpath going right. The path passes between caravans to a kissing gate, then crosses a field to a hedge gap. Cross the next field to a kissing gate and a lane (grid ref. SH602784).

Turn left uphill along the lane. Continue ahead at the first junction and head downhill and follow lane as it bends right with a white cottage on the left. Almost immediately, turn left at the next junction and after a few metres turn right onto a signed footpath. Briefly pass through trees and follow signed path with yellow arrows across Henllys Golf Course. The path soon runs beside a fence on your left and heads uphill to a kissing gate and lame (grid ref. SH602773). Turn right and follow lane as it swings left. As the lane descends into Beaumaris, you can enjoy a great to the mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia). After a kilometre you reach the B5109. Turn left and then first left along Rating Row. At the end of Rating Row is a fingerpost with directions to the castle with car park used at the start close by.
