Caption - The name Hawes means a ‘pass between mountains' and it stands between the Buttertubs Pass and Fleet Moss. It is the main town in Upper Wensleydale. Gayle Beck rises high up in the fells to the south before flowing through the centre of Hawes into the River Ure.
