Walk Route Description

Photo from the walk - Horsey Circular

This varied circular walk from Horsey is full of interest including a section of the Norfolk Broads, wind powered water pumps, a section of coast, the chance to see seals and much more. The route follows paths through the watery landscape under big skies with two short sections of road walking. There is also a section along the dunes from Horsey Gap.

The start is the National Trust pay and display car park by Horsey Drainage Mill (grid ref. TG457223). After parking walk south towards the moorings. Turn right and continue along the clear path to reach Horsey Mere. The path swings right and continues with Horsey Mere to your left. The path then swings north, and you should continue to the derelict Brograve Drainage Mill (grid ref. TG448236).

Turn right and continue ahead for 400 metres. The path then turns sharp left and soon after right across a small bridge with trees on your right. Continue along the clear path to reach a lane at Horsey Corner (grid ref. TG457236). Turn left along the tarmac lane to a main road. Turn right and follow the right-hand verge for just over 300 metres to where the road turns sharp right. Turn left here onto a track and continue for 600 metres to a car park (grid ref. TG474241). Turn right through a metal kissing gate (with adjacent gate). You are now on the Norfolk Coast Path. As an alternative you can walk along the beach where you may see seals.

Continue along the beach or Norfolk Coast for just over a kilometre turn right. There is a fingerpost (signed to Nelson Head Pub). If walking along the beach, there is a gap in the dunes with concrete walls wither side. Follow the clear path between fences to join a tarmac lane (grid ref. TG463227). Walk ahead and pass the Nelson Head Pub on your right which is worth a visit if time permits. Once past the pub continue head soon joining the main road through Horsey. Keep ahead at this junction and walk through the village to the car park used at the start. From the car park it is a short walk south to a tearoom and Horsey Drainage Mill which is manged by the National Trust.
