A circular walk in the North Downs from Box Hill & Westhumble station exploring the Box Hill Country Park. The route crosses the River Mole, a tributary of the Thames, and continues to Mickleham. The walk then continues into the Box Hill Country Park to reach the viewing point on the south facing escarpment. A short section of the North Downs Way is used to return to the start. Trains from Victoria and Waterloo provide easy access to the area with a journey time of under an hour.

The start is Box hill and Westhumble station (grid ref. TQ167519). Exit the car park and turn left across the railway. Almost immediately turn right onto a signed footpath heading north parallel to the railway. The path crosses a footbridge over the River Mole by the railway viaduct and 150 metres later veers half-left across a field. The path leads to a lane. Turn right and continue to Cowslip Farm. Turn right along Cowslip Lane. The lane passes under the railway twice and continues to a T-junction with Swanworth Farm on your left. Turn right and continue to the B2209 in Mickleham (grid ref. TQ170534).

Turn right along the B2209, pass the church on your left and then turn left along a track with a fingerpost on the left. The onward path starts to climb steadily into the Box Hill Country Park which features woodland and some open clearings. You soon reach a wider cross path/track (grid ref. TQ1765330. Go straight across and continue the climb over a ridge. The path is waymarked and starts to descend soon turning left with the remains of a fence on your right. After 200 metres the path turns left and descends more steeply down to Headley Lane and a car park. Cross the lane and continue through the car park to join onward path/track. The route follows a clear wide path that heads up the valley of Juniper Bottom.

Nearing the top of the climb you reach a complex junction of paths and tracks (grid ref. TQ184516). Keep ahead here and continue to Zig Zag Road. Cross the road and turn right on the path running parallel to the road. This path leads to the Box Hill viewing point (grid ref. TQ180512) which has an extensive view south. The viewing platform overlooks an OS trig column. After enjoying the extensive panorama continue ahead on a descending path. Nearing the foot of the descent cross the stepping stones over the River Mole and pass through a ca car park to reach the A24. Turn right for 400 metres and then go left using the underpass to cross the A24.The underpass leads you into Westhumble Road. Follow the road for 350 metres and turn left to Box Hill and Westhumble station car park.
