Walk Route Description

This walk to the summit of East Lomond offers a short but rewarding route to a viewpoint in Fife. Locally known as one of the Paps of Fife, the hill is of volcanic origin rising 434 metres (1,408 feet) above sea level. On fine days this is a popular walk.

The start is Craigmead car park (grid ref. NO227062) situated on a minor road a few miles south-west of Falkland. There are toilets at the car park. After parking exit the car park and turn right along the road. Almost immediately, turn left onto a stepped path with a disused quarry to your right. The path swings to the left and then right to continue between walls for 800 metres along a clear track.

Where the track swings right bear left and join a path that initially follows a wall on your right before veering left to start an ascent of East Lomond. You soon gain height and reach the OS trig point, which is not the highest point of the hill. From the trig column climb up to the topograph which is located on the highest point. The topograph details what can be seen in the extensive view across Fife and also includes some landmarks further afield.

The return route follows the path used in ascent. Ahead you can see West Lomond (522 m., 1713 ft.) which is the highest point in the Lomond Hills and Fife. If you have enough energy this summit can be included in your walking plans for the day - go to West Lomond from Craigmead walk.
